Josh Herrin to make WorldSBK debut at Laguna Seca
The 2013 AMA Superbike champion will ride a YZF-R1 at his home track
The United States of America will have a third representative on the grid at Round 8 of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship: Josh Herrin will join countrymen Jake Gagne (Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team) and PJ Jacobsen (TripleM Honda World Superbike Team) at the GEICO US Round, making his WorldSBK debut as a wildcard.
Born in California, just a few hours away from the Laguna Seca racetrack, Herrin will board the same Yamaha YZF-R1 that he uses in the MotoAmerica Superbike championship. Herrin, who will run at Laguna Seca for the Attack Performance Two Wheel Legal Yamaha team, is currently third in the national championship.
Herrin was crowned AMA Superbike champion in 2013, following in the steps of WorldSBK legends Fred Merkel or Troy Corser, amongst others. He has also previously raced in Moto2™.
The 28-year-old will thus become the 69th US rider to start a WorldSBK race, following Jacobsen’s debut at Philip Island earlier this year. The North American nation boasts six former WorldSBK champions, the last being Ben Spies in 2009.
